Delivering  a  “TED Talk” as a panel speaker for TEDx Yearling Road

The primary purpose of Battered Not Broken, Inc. is to provide an abundance of resources and educational tools for both victims and survivors of abuse; yet, it’s attention to mental health and unhealthy behaviors make’s this program unique and effective.

The organization’s philosophy “You can’t prevent what you don’t see and you can’t heal from what you don’t identify” encompasses the program’s doctrine.

Empowerment is a powerful force!

I firmly believe in the empowerment model which is an approach to support given during a crisis. Psychological empowerment is a cognitive state characterized by a sense of perceived control, perceptions of competence, and internalization of goals and objectives. The link that advocates such as myself, are now making between prevention, safety planning and empowerment, is based on the concept of behavioral empowerment, which occurs when actions are taken to regain a sense of control and competence over one’s life. Anytime I deliver a speech or facilitate a workshop it is base on this model. Ultimately, we are all in control, even when we are not in control of our circumstances. Our ability to find /discover our own power and control is empowering! Battered Not Broken is not only about overcoming abuse, but it’s a mindset for not allowing anyone or any circumstance in life that leaves us feeling battered- to break us!
